American experts have claimed that
deafness increases the risk of dementia in old age.
Experts from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg
School of Public Health, an American medical research institution, researched
the relationship between dementia and deafness in old age.
During the research, experts examined the
daily routines of 2,400 people and the diseases they suffered from.
Of the 2,400 people the experts included
in their research, half of them were over 80 years old.
In the course of the research, it was
revealed that those who lost or lost hearing in old age were 61 percent more
likely to develop dementia than those who could hear well.
Alison Huang, the head of the research
team, says the research improves observations regarding the link between
hearing loss and dementia.
Experts believe that their research has
revealed a link between deafness and dementia, but more research is needed for
conclusive results in this regard.
